Road Safety

On June 28th we will have Karen McCarthy of the Road Safety coming in to talk to the children. It will be an important event to remind the children of how to keep safe.

I would like to remind you of our responsibility in terms of children safety when dropping & collecting your children from school:

-please observe the no parking signs and the yellow box

-please don’t obstruct the footpath & entrance to the carpark as children are then forced to walk onto the road to get around the cars blocking the walkway.

Congratulations & Thanks

School Book Fair: Well done to Ms Moran and 6th Class for organising the visit of the Celtic Book Fair back in April. 6th Class did a fantastic job of running it. We raised a total of €1888.39 of which €1133 stays in the school to purchase books. Thanks to all who supported the Book Fair so generously.

Internet Safety Competition: Congratulations to all children who entered this competition. There was a lovely array of entries which are on display in the Halla. The theme of the competition was ‘Play your part for a better internet’. Thanks to Mrs Tuohy who organised the competition.

Hurling & Camogie: Children from 4th, 5th & 6th classes took part in the the Camogie and Hurling Sciath na Scol games and the Carrigdhoun Blitzes. Well done to the boys and girls who are fantastic representatives for the school. The boys won their blitz and the girls came second. Best of luck to Jill Roberts who was selected by Cork Primary Games to play at half-time during the Cork/Tipperary game on 11th or 12th June.

Communion & Confirmation: Congratulations to the children who made their First Holy Communion & Confirmation. Both days were very special occasions. Well done to all the staff involved in the preparation, the PA, under the chair of Tracy Crotty, for organising the Communion reception & Confirmation disco, to all the volunteers that helped out at both events, to Linda Roberts for supplying the balloons for the Communion reception & to Pat the Baker/ Richard Murphy for supplying the bread for the sandwiches.

5th Class entered the ‘Port of Cork’ competition in March – their project was entitled ‘The Hidden Gems of West Cork’ and is on display outside Ruth’s office. The Class, Regina & Ms O’ Mahony put huge work into their 3D entry and enjoyed a boat trip of the harbour for their hard work. Well done to all!

Thanks to Catherine & Kieran Sisk for putting us in touch with Greg Causer (crew member) and for helping to organise the visit. Thanks to Shamrocks GAA club for the use of the grounds. It was a great opportunity for the school.

‘Giving For Living’ Radiothon: Last Friday we held a non-uniform day in aid of the ‘Giving For Living’. Thanks to Regina who organised the event. School Gardening: The children in the school have been very busy this term in our school garden. Thanks to members of the PA who painted the tyres for our new Garden Area. Thanks in particular to parent Marie Anne Cotter who has given a great deal of time to helping the classes with the planting. Marie Anne also gave up her time to help with the swimming which reduced our overall costs.

Active School’s Committee: This year we have started working towards an Active School’s Flag. Thanks to Mr O’ Mahony & the committee of staff, along with the children of the Active Schools Committee for all their work. There have been great initiatives put in place (please see school website for details) and all have worked diligently to help make our school a more active place, not to mention the fun we are having!
